The
21st Century Waterfront Development Plan
Three Million Little Hands
Creative
Discovery Museum, Chattanooga’s successful children’s
museum that has been rated one of the top 20 in the nation
by Child magazine, began a $3 million renovation program as
part of the 21st Century Waterfront Plan. After eight years
and lots of love and affection from almost three million little
hands, the Museum planned to heighten it experiences by creating
two new exhibits while redeveloping and reinvigorating its
core exhibits.
At
the heart of all this work and planning: the creation of two
gateway exhibits at the Museum. RiverPlay,
the first of these gateway exhibits, was the Museum’s
first completed phase of its program. RiverPlay also conceptually
connects the Museum to the river three blocks away.
Phase
two of this project has also been completed – the renovation
and expansion of the Little Yellow House
for toddlers, which was featured in Time magazine in April
2004.
The
second gateway exhibit, the Rooftop Fun Factory,
was completed March 19, 2005.
Two
more phases of renovation and redesign still remain. The
Inventors’ Clubhouse, which will open in April
of 2005, and Arts Alley, which will open
in the summer of 2005.
