Hands-On Childhood Fun at
Creative Discovery Museum
Selected
13th Best Children’s Museum
in the Nation by Child Magazine!
Chattanooga,
TN: You've got to do this! If you have children then
a visit to Creative Discovery Museum, the area's only interactive
children's museum, is a must. Created with children’s
input, this 43,000 square foot facility combines a "WOW"
fun factor with a love of learning that actively engages kids
and their parents in a wide variety of hands-on exhibits that
are newly redesigned and reconstructed.
The multi-discipline
museum, which is both a children’s museum and a science
and technology center, is the only such facility within an
approximate 100-mile radius of Chattanooga. Housed in a building
recognized for its architectural design, the Museum features
six core exhibits that stand ready to enthrall children from
all walks of life.
•
RiverPlay is the exciting exhibit where kids can
inch their way up a two-and-a-half story climbing structure,
spin down a spiral slide, whirl a fan to make a kite fly,
build boats and sail them down an interactive watercourse,
use jets of water to make a whirligig spin, or pilot a kid-size,
play-aboard riverboat.
• The Little Yellow House is a pre-school
play space especially for the four and under crowd. The age
appropriate play activities (tree house, play kitchen, and
games) are specially designed for toddlers' learning abilities
and interests.
• Arts Alley allows kids to express
themselves creatively by drawing, sculpting, playing with
puppets, making music on real and imaginary instruments, dancing
in the shadow room or dressing up and putting on a show in
the new “Back Alley Theatre.”
• The simulated dinosaur dig in Excavation Station
is just one of kids’ favorites. Once your kids run underneath
the full scale T-rex skeleton cast in the entrance, they can
unearth almost any information they could possibly want to
know about bugs (Entomology), bones (Paleontology) and rocks
(Geology).
• Whether your kids like to take things apart, put them
together, or just tinker around, they'll get a kick out of
the Museum's Inventors’ Clubhouse.
Here they can conduct their own experiments, build robots,
or learn about electricity and magnets.
• Fun Goes Sky High when kids learn about simple machines
while they play out on the roof in our new Rooftop
Fun Factory. Kids can lift themselves off the roof
with pulleys, use a lever to shoot balls through a cage, make
a beautiful melody, blow bubbles off the roof, or spin themselves
around an Archimedes Screw.
Other
special features at the museum include regularly scheduled
science demonstrations, artists- and scientists-in-residence,
seasonal festivals and walk-up art lessons – all included
in the price of admission. Then there's the Temporary Exhibit
Gallery, where the museum houses its rotation of regularly
changing blockbuster exhibits – for no extra admission
fee. The Museum’s three-story Lookout Tower, a one-of-a-kind
structure, has a moving, 3D Barsamian sculpture on its first
floor, an optics gallery and live beehive on its second floor,
and an observation deck/outlook at the top of the third floor.
There's also the Creative Café and the Museum Shop.
