We are currently hiring for:


Membership Assistant/Receptionist - Part time

Occupational Summary

The Membership Assistant/Receptionist is responsible for providing excellent customer service to all Museum guests both through answering the Museum’s general telephone and greeting visitors to the office.  This position provides administrative membership support to the Membership Manager, while maintaining the front receptionist office.  


Duties and Responsibilities

  • Stuffing of envelopes
  • Print membership cards, labels, and merged letters
  • Update and maintain the Raiser’s Edge database
  • Process green sheets (communication from ticket desk)
  • Update Gift Certificate log
  • Supply ticket desk with Play before you Pay sheet
  • Restock membership forms
  • Make phone calls to lapsed and new members
  • Assist Development staff the Museum’s annual fund and  annual fundraising event, AmuseUm
  • Answer the telephone, sending all incoming calls to the appropriate Museum employee and answering questions of a general nature, including those related to Museum hours, admission rates, directions, memberships, programs and birthday parties
  • Greet visitors and notify the appropriate employee of the arrival of guests
  • Distribute incoming mail to employee mailboxes
  • Produce name tags for staff
  • Stock the copy machine with all paper types at the beginning of shift
  • Maintain office equipment by monitoring the working condition and calling for service as needed
  • Maintain receptionist area in a neat, clean and organized manner
  • Other duties as assigned

Museum Educator (Level I)

Occupational Summary

Level I Museum Educators are responsible for providing a quality experience for all museum guests by ensuring a safe, fun, and clean environment. This position is expected to be available for work during the Museum’s regular hours and evening events.

Daily Responsibilities

  • Assist guests with the interpretation and understanding of exhibits in all core areas
  • Maintain the integrity of the exhibits by ensuring that guest interaction is safe for both the exhibit and the guest.
  • Assist in the cleaning and maintenance of core areas before, during, and after museum hours.
  • Assist in the training of volunteers at the direction of the Volunteer staff.
  • Meet the needs of all guests while maintaining a proactive and fun-loving attitude.
  • Interact with guests by offering walk-ups that include clearly articulated educational content in a positive and fun loving manner

Camp Assistant Responsibilities

  • Aid campers in completion of activities and lessons
  • Supervise campers and Museum Apprentices who are helping with camp
  • Maintain discipline in the absence of the Camp Teacher
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of campers at all times
  • Aid the Camp Teacher in the set-up and take-down of all activities

Birthday, Lock-in, and Highlights Tour Responsibilities

  • Provide an overall quality experience for guests before and during the program
  • Responsible for set-up and clean-up of all programs
  • Perform necessary duties to ensure program runs smoothly at the discretion of the birthday and lock-in lead.
  • Interact and communicate positively with adults and children before and during the program
  • Meet the needs of the children and adults proactively in all programs
  • Other duties as assigned by the Education Staff Manager

Housekeeping Associate - Part Time

Occupational Summary

The Housekeeping Associate is responsible for all functions related to maintaining the cleanliness of the building, by providing a safe, fun, and clean environment for our guest. This position is expected to be available for work during evening hours, as well the museum’s regular hours and special events.


Daily Responsibilities

  • Primary housekeeping duties throughout the Museum, including but not limited to vacuuming, cleaning rest rooms, dusting of furniture, and exhibits, cleaning mirrors, and mopping.
  • Understands relationship of duties to successful operation of the Museum to the benefit of the guest and is capable of completing work with no disruption to guest service.
  • Communicates effectively with Associates and Management.
  • Sensitive to the needs of the Museum. Willing to flex to other areas as needed. Works the schedule set by the Manager but demonstrates flexibility when the needs of the Museum dictate.
  • Organize daily work schedule.
  • Complete tasks efficiently and neatly.
  • Maintains a clean, orderly, and safe work area. Safely and adequately handles equipment required for the job function - maintains safety awareness in the execution of their job.
  • Follows through with minimal supervision. Completes tasks on a timely basis.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor

Admission Desk Assistant Manager

Full Time

Occupational Summary

The Ticket Desk Assistant Manager is a key member of the Visitor Services team and will be expected to provide managerial support for the Café and the Museum Shop as needed. The position requires excellent customer service skills, organizational skills and strong leadership abilities. Emergency procedures, the First Aid Room and an understanding of the cameras are responsibilities of this position as well as cash control, communications, ordering and maintaining supplies, attendance reporting, ticket printing, staff training and a working knowledge of the Tam Retail system.  The Assistant manager will be the primary person in charge of facility rentals and will need to work closely with the Café Manager in regards to catering.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Customer Service:  Exemplifies excellent customer service with all staff, guests and vendors and assists with customer service training in order to maintain a gold standard level of customer service throughout the department.  Apply the principles of Wakanheza as needed.
  • Attendance Reports:  Computes daily attendance reports and recreates new reports at times.  Balances these reports at month end and sends to appropriate personnel in a timely manner.
  • Open the Desk and complete end-of-day closing.  Prepare the registers and ensure that the area is stocked and ready for the day’s activities. Shuts down computer system at end of day, running all appropriate reports, reconciles cash, check, and charge account totals, completes necessary reports and bank deposits, balances safe, and locks up at end of day.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly Lobby.  Oversee the cleaning and the general upkeep of the lobby including stanchion placement and brochure stock.  Places back stock of brochures in proper storage areas and keeps these areas clean, neat, safe, visible, and easy for restock.  Contacts appropriate personnel when brochure stock is low in order to minimize outages.
  • Operate point of sale computer.  Operates ticket desk computers, changes receipt printer tape, corrects Associate and Lead errors, monitors and records need for refunds and aids in the general maintenance of the computer.
  • Educates and sells.  Familiarizes and educates oneself and other staff members about the museum and its programs and exhibits, in order to best present and explain to the customer.
  • Respond to ticket requests.  Prints tickets for in-house orders, consignment ticket orders, and online orders as needed.  Works with Aquarium staff members in regards to order forms as well as collections.
  • Maintain adequate change supplies. Release deposits.  Keeps an adequate supply of change in the register drawers.  Prepares and releases bank deposits for pick up by armored courier.
  • Assists with supervision of subordinate staff.  Assigns and distributes work to subordinate staff and oversees their performance, reporting observations and problems to the Manager or Director and works to resolve such problems.
  • Monitor problems.  Responds to the needs of Volunteers, Sales Associates, and Sales Leads as problems arise and alert the Manager or Director in the event that he/she is needed to intervene
  • First Aid Room.  Keeps First Aid room well stocked, organized and clean.  Reviews forms and records to ensure proper reporting procedures are being followed. Keeps posters and other information updated.  Helps all staff members to know where supplies are kept and how to log visits. 
  • Emergency Procedures:  Maintains an expert level of knowledge for  lost child codes procedures, Fire alarms, Door alarms, Weather related emergencies and Cameras
  • Petty Cash:  Responds to petty cash requests.  Prepares monthly reports as well as replenishment requests.
  • Facility Rentals:  Oversees Facility Rentals from the initial contact through the completion of the event.  Quotes rental rates, gives tours, connects coordinators with Café Manager (as well as others) for catering options, submits work orders, coordinates staffing needs, stays for rental as long as needed, collects payments, does follow up. 
  • Departmental Supplies:  Keeps a monthly log of general supplies for department including register paper, deposit bags, etc.  Communicates supply levels to Manager or places orders as needed.
  • Assists in supervising shop/café/ticket desk staff
  • Complete other tasks as assigned.

Other duties and Responsibilities

  • Assists with food preparation ensuring that the café conforms to County Health Department standards. Familiarizes oneself and staff members with Health Department regulations and ensures that the staff members are conforming to these standards.
  • Assist in maintaining the café inventory and the reordering of food and supplies. Assists in monitoring food and supply inventory levels for the café and reorders as needed taking care to avoid waste.
  • Assist in museum shop operations.  Assists in the daily operations of museum shop and steps in and helps with the opening or closing procedures when needed.
