Fourth Friday Family Fun Night at Creative Discovery Museum Science Theatre

Creative Discovery Museum Science Theatre invites kids to solve engineering challenges, just like the kids on the PBS television show, Design Squad!

It's all part of a new program at Creative Discovery Museum Science Theatre called Fourth Friday Family Fun Night. The February event will celebrate Engineering Week on Feb. 22 from 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. with a program modeled on the popular PBS Design Squad show.

Kids will need lots of creativity and inventiveness to solve these engineering challenges. Real engineers will be on hand to help participants build a speedy car, invent a ping pong ball flyer, create a sneaky alarm and design a wind sculpture to take home.

"Our goal is to provide fun, interactive and educational activities for the whole family one night per month," said Science Theatre Manager Karen Dewhirst. "Each month we have a different topic. In December, we focused on snow. In January, we made Fabulously Freaky Fake-outs which included Fake Blood and Slimy Snot. Kids loved the yummy grossness! They also made a Fabulously Freaky Fake-out Cookbook to take home to fake out friends and family."

Activity stations will be set up throughout the Science Theatre so that children can work through the areas at their own speed. Each station is staffed to provide directions needed to complete the activity and a science tidbit about the activity.

Activities are designed for children ages 9 -13. Younger children are also welcome, and there will be age appropriate engineering challenges for them.

Cost is $9 per child ages 4 and up. Creative Discovery Museum member cost is $8 per child. Younger children are welcome. We will have different age appropriate activities for younger scientists. Parents are free. Call 423-875-8522 to pre-register.

Creative Discovery Museum Science Theatre is located inside Northgate Mall. The entrance is on the back side of the mall between JC Penney and Belk.
