Create Your Dream House at Creative Discovery Museum

Dennis Palmer leads a pastel and watercolor resist art activity at Creative Discovery Museum beginning Wednesday, March 18 – Friday, March 20, 2009 from 12-3pm.

Beginning Wednesday, March 18 from 12-3pm, Creative Discovery Museum is hosting artist Dennis Palmer to lead a three-day arts residency for children all ages to attend.  The residency will correspond with the museum’s current exhibit, Your House, My House in that children will use specific art techniques to create their very own dream house.  This event is free with paid admission to the museum.

This project using oil resist will cover basic lines and colors, focusing on the theme of creating a Dream House. Students will learn that oil resists watery liquids. In this project, the oil pastels are more than just color and line; they are active in the design. Resisting the watercolor, they repel the watercolor & the results are always fantastic!

“Children are fascinated with building structures and anything relating to the built environment.  This residency with Dennis Palmer explores the artistic and creative side to looking at homes”, said Liza Blair, Arts Manager for Creative Discovery Museum.  “Dennis has an extensive history of working with children, and he is a terrific artist with a long, colorful career in assisting children to create fun, passionate, vibrant expressions.  This residency is going to be fun.”

Create Your Dream Home residency with Dennis Palmer will take place in the Creative Discovery Museum’s Atrium, beginning Wednesday, March 18 through Friday, March 20 from 12-3pm each day.

Winter hours through the month of February -- open Monday through Saturday (except Wednesday) 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Sunday noon to 5 p.m., closed Wednesday.
