Muddy Hands at Creative Discovery Museum

Get Your Hands Muddy  with Creative Discovery Museum’s
Hand Thrown Clay on Saturday, August 15, 2009

Creative Discovery Museum is offering hand thrown clay for children.  Local artist Lolly Durant will teach children the basics of throwing clay into the shape of a small bowl.  This event is free with paid admission to the museum.

Hand Thrown Clay is part of ARTS THIRD SATURDAY, a series of events happening every third Saturday, at the Creative Discovery Museum.  Children and adults can expect an interactive, arts-based activity taking place every third Saturday for the remainder of the year.  These activities are designed to expose children to three distinct art mediums: clay, performance, and music, while also providing opportunities for kids to play and connect with local professional artists.

“Clay is such a tactile, messy, fun medium for kids to explore and interact with,” said Liza Blair, Arts Manager for Creative Discovery Museum.  “It allows children the freedom to get dirty while learning the craft of how to transform a ball of clay into a small bowl using only your hands, some water and a mechanical wheel.”

Hand Thrown Clay will take place in the Creative Discovery Museum’s Atrium on Saturday, August 15 from 12 to 4 p.m.

Spring and Summer hours, beginning March 1 -- open Monday through Saturday (including Wednesday) 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Sunday noon to 5 p.m.

Hours Labor Day through the month of February -- open Monday through Saturday (except Wednesday) 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Sunday noon to 5 p.m., closed Wednesday.

Tickets are $9.95 for adults and children over the age of 2. Creative Discovery Museum is located at 321 Chestnut Street in downtown Chattanooga. For more information, call (423) 756-2738.
