Chattanooga, TN  - Creative Discovery Museum is going bananas this summer with Curious George™!  In fact, on Saturday, June 27, the Museum is devoting a whole day of activities to the tropical fruit.  Throughout “Banana Day” at the Museum, guests can create funny banana hats, sing silly banana songs, and even measure their height with bananas when they visit the Curious George™:  Let’s Get Curious exhibit.

From 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., guests are invited to tempt their taste buds and vote for one of five yummy banana puddings.  Banana pudding is a southern tradition, and the Museum is taking the perfect opportunity to host a best banana pudding contest.  Announced by Anne Braly in a recent issue of the Chattanooga Times Free Press, the Museum called for nominations for the Chattanooga restaurant with the best banana pudding.  On June 27, the top six nominees will whip up a large batch of the favorite dessert for guests to taste.

At 3 p.m. votes will be tallied and one area restaurant will be crowned with the honor of serving up the best banana pudding in Chattanooga.  Participating restaurants include Hillbilly Willy’s BBQ & Catering, Jenkins Country Style Buffet, Murphy’s Eatz & Sweetz, Purple Daisy, Southern Star, and Shuford’s Smokehouse.

Kids will also have an opportunity to make their own creamy concoction at the only event in Chattanooga dedicated to this crowd pleasing dessert.  Plus, Curious George™ will make a special appearance to cast his vote as well!
From 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., Taco Rico will be leading a tamale wrapping demonstration using plantain leaves in our new Teaching Kitchen located adjacent to the upstairs gallery.

"In celebration of the Curious George exhibit, we really want to theme activities around things kids and parents could get excited about," comments Erica Campbell, Museum Experience Manager. "Bananas are healthy and fun to eat, so Banana Day is suited perfectly to the exhibit and the Museum's unique way of creating excitement in everyday curiosities.”

Curious George:  Let’s Get Curious will be the featured summer exhibit June 13 through September 27, 2009.  Through fun math, science and engineering-based adventures, this exhibit inspires children of all ages to ask questions and find answers through hands-on solution seeking.  The exhibit is sponsored nationally by 3M and locally by Little Debbie Snacks®, Chattanooga Times Free Press, and Village Volkswagon of Chattanooga and Audi Chattanooga.  The Museum has partnered with The Chattanooga Zoo and WTCI Channel 45 to help present the exhibit.
