Marble Mania at Creative Discovery Museum’s
Science Theatre at Northgate Mall


(September 18, 2009) – On Friday, September 25 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., the Science Theatre at Northgate Mall will host a special 4th Friday Family Fun Night.  Marble Mania science will be presented by expert marble playing champions and a wacky demonstration from the Marble Maniacs to bring to life the fun of physics!  Guests will get to watch marble playing pros in action, learn marble shooting techniques, and get autographs from these special guests:

Shawn Hughes, Organizer of the “Super Bowl of Marbles” and the National Rolley Hole Marbles Championship which has been featured by ESPN, Sports Illustrated, and National Geographic, as well as, other major networks.  The tournament has been called “the world’s most challenging marbles tournament”.

Trevor Norrod, 15 year old 2008 National Marbles Tournament winner of the Walt Lease Award and 3 time Overton County Ringer Marbles Champion

Brooklyn Cherry, 14 year old Third Place winner in the 2009 and 2008 National Marbles Tournament, 4 time Clay County Ringer Marbles Champion and 2008 Standing Stone State Park Ringer Champion

Other fun activities include creating a labyrinth based on force and motion, making marble jewelry, painting with marbles, racing spherical objects down an inclined plane, participating in the blow and go marble race, challenging friends to a fun game of marbles and much more!  Karen Dewhirst, Science Theatre Manager, states, “In addition to the stellar line-up of guests that will be at the Science Theatre, we have our very own Marble Maniacs who will give a hilarious presentation based on Newton’s Laws of physics that can’t be missed!”

Cost is $7/child for Creative Discovery Museum member ($9/child for non-members).  Parents are free!  Activities are appropriate for children age 3 and older.  Guests are asked to use caution with children under 3 years of age.  Call the Science Theatre at 423-875-8522 to pre-register.
