(November 15, 2010) - - Creative Discovery Museum will celebrate the dawning of 2011 in unique fashion with a New Years at Noon celebration held December 31. This is the only local New Year’s Eve event designed specifically for children during daylight hours. This event draws a record crowd to the Museum, so visitors are encouraged to arrive no later than 11:35 a.m. to enjoy the noontime activities.
Children attending this event will learn about the passage of time using traditional adult activities presented in a child friendly manner. The party atmosphere of this day lends itself to a celebration for the whole family. Because New Years at Noon has become a much-anticipated, traditional event as part of Chattanooga’s holiday routine, Museum staff are working to ensure that the expectations created during past successful New Years celebrations will be met and exceeded again this year.
“New Years at Noon has become a consistent part of holiday traditions for many Chattanooga families,” commented Dr. Jayne Griffin, Director of Education at Creative Discovery Museum. “New Years at Noon features activities that focus on the passage of time and the repetition of these activities from year to year gives children a sense of security and anticipation that is an important part of any holiday celebration. New Year's at Noon offers families the opportunity to extend and enjoy their holiday after all of the rush is over!”
As part of the traditional celebration, the Museum will host a countdown with Father Time and Baby New Year, complete with a colorful, air-filling confetti drop at the strike of noon. At 1 p.m., Father Time will lead guests in an energetic dance party with live music provided by Saxophobia. Children will make hats, wands, and shakers all morning in preparation for a grand parade at 2 p.m. and participate in an extravaganza of popping, bubble wrap “fireworks”. Guests may also get a souvenir photo taken to commemorate the day’s festivities.
All activities are free with paid admission to the Museum.
