WHO:
October 21: Signal Centers and Elaine Adams with Chattanooga Parks and Recreation will bring adaptive equipment to answer kids’ curiosity about technology and devices that help people with disabilities accomplish everyday tasks.
October 21 and October 22: Artist Rick Gadbury will demonstrate how he creatively finds ways to enjoy painting without the use of his hands.
October 23: Kids will meet specially trained animals including Tinkerbell, the therapy horse, Speedy, a dog who uses special equipment for its needs, and animals from the Goodwill Assistance Dog Academy.
Kids Like You, Kids Like Me is a partnership between Creative Discovery Museum and Siskin Children's Institute. The exhibit and related programs are sponsored by Unum and Chattanooga Times Free Press.
WHY:
“We focus on ‘ability’ in the word disability,” states Amy Barrett, Museum Experience Manager over Staffing and Programs. “We take this time to celebrate people’s differences and break down the barriers that might arise when kids aren’t familiar with how to interact with a person who has a disability.”
