Homeschool Science Club is Formula for Serious Fun at Creative Discovery Museum

(June 23, 2010) - Creative Discovery Museum offers a distinctive opportunity for homeschool students ages 5 – 12.  The Homeschool Science Club at Creative Discovery Museum incorporates fun learning activities, exploration time in the Museum, and collaborative problem-solving with peers.  From prehistoric animals and exploration of color and light to kitchen chemistry and the ecology of the Tennessee River, Science topics are explored in depth through hands-on activities and group interaction.  Enrollment is now open.  Students have the option to attend either Wednesdays or Thursdays from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. from September through May.

The four-week topics include:

September:  I Can Dig It – Mysterious prehistoric animals are lurking around the Museum.  Can students identify them?
October:  Inventor’s Clubhouse – Using problem-solving and teamwork, students will be required to find creative solutions to everyday conundrums.

November:  Reflections of You – Color and light will be explored.

December:  Club will not meet during this month.

January:  Goose Bumps – Investigate how animals and plants adapt to temperature change

February:  Kitchen Chemistry – Students will learn what chemicals are reacting when ingredients are mixed and concoctions created.

March:  Fuel It Up – This lesson energizes students with information about the science of how their bodies use their fuel to move.

April:  Down and Dirty with Worms – Help the environment and get dirty too by enjoying composting, gardening, and investigating the world of worms.

May:  Rollin’ Down the River – Students will learn all about the ecology and the economy of the Tennessee River and other water ways.

“The Homeschool Science Club gives kids that are homeschooled the unique opportunity to work together with their peers on solving science ‘mysteries’, exploring scientific topics, plus spending time in the Museum,” stated Lynne Mulligan, Museum Programs Manager.  “Kids will have a great deal of fun while learning really cool information about topics they already find interesting.”
