Student Art Lends Creativity to Riverbend

Tennessee Valley Federal Credit Union Sets the Stage (and the Table) for Riverbend Beach

** Press Conference to Preview Exhibition of Tabletop Art **
May 17 10 a.m., Creative Discovery Museum

(May 11, 2010) – A showcase of student ingenuity is the result of a partnership between Center for the Creative Arts (CCA), Tennessee Valley Federal Credit Union (TVFCU), and Creative Discovery Museum.  Tabletops hand painted by CCA middle school and high school art students will be on exhibit beginning May 17th in the Museum’s Student Art Gallery.  The Student Art Gallery of the Museum is sponsored by TVFCU.  In June, the tabletops will be moved to the TVFCU stage area at Riverbend 2010 as a testament to the talent of the city’s young artists.

The Student Art Gallery at the Museum provides a venue for exhibiting artwork of students grades Pre-K through 12.  This exhibit area is especially designed to showcase student work throughout the year.   Many of the unique tabletops created by students from Center for the Creative Arts will represent themes related to the Riverbend Festival and TVFCU’s Riverbend Beach.  The tabletops will continue to benefit students’ accessibility to the arts.  Each tabletop will be auctioned off at CCA’s annual fall fundraiser, and the proceeds will be used to purchase additional student art supplies.  TVFCU has made supporting local student art education one of its main community objectives.

We are pleased to partner with Tennessee Valley Federal Credit Union.  We especially appreciate their commitment to the arts,” expressed Henry Schulson, Executive Director of Creative Discovery Museum.  “The Student Art Gallery and the tabletop project are wonderful ways to recognize and celebrate the artistic talents of our students.”

Community presentation of the student’s individual works will continue on-site at the Riverbend Festival as part of Tennessee Valley Federal Credit Union’s popular Riverbend Beach.  For the second year, TVFCU has invited fellow partners, including Monteagle Sand Company LLC, Creative Discovery Museum, the DoubleTree Hotel Chattanooga, and WDEF Channel 12, to bring astounding sand sculptures, a giant sand box with children’s activities, and unique beach-style fun to the Riverbend Festival.  Children and families will be invited to paint a different beach themed mural each night as they become inspired by the waves of sun and fun.

We’re excited that TVFCU is providing us the opportunity to bring hands-on activities for kids to Riverbend Beach,” continued Mr. Schulson.  “While kids can enjoy watching professional artists at work, we can also offer them fun ways to participate by making their own extraordinary creations.”
