Wowed by Whoopee Cushions

Unique Orchestra to Perform at Creative Discovery Museum

(June 23, 2010) - - Children and families will be aghast by the unique talent displayed by Creative Discovery Museum staff.  On August 7 at 2 p.m., Museum staff will present a dynamic Whoopee Cushion and Kazoo musical performance.  This unique orchestra will perform excerpts from some of the world’s classic works of art, such as Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony.  Kids will also have a chance at the fun during special whoopee cushion music lessons scheduled throughout the day.  

“Whoopee cushions and kazoos are ideal musical instruments for kids.  Not only are they fun to play with, but when used correctly they add just the right amount of flair to a performance,” states Liza Blair, Museum Arts Manager.  “Our whimsical versions of the classics are meant to elicit an excitement for music and show creativity comes in many forms.”

The Whoopee Cushion Orchestra was inspired by the Museum’s featured exhibit, Grossology:  The (Impolite) Science of the Human Body.  The exhibit, featured throughout the summer in the Museum’s temporary gallery, gives kids an opportunity to explore the science of some of the not frequently talked about functions of the human body.
