FIND HANDS-ON CHILDHOOD FUN AT CREATIVE DISCOVERY MUSEUM

Selected 13th Best Children’s Museum in the Nation by Child Magazine!

If you have children, then a visit to Creative Discovery Museum, the area’s only interactive children's museum, is a must. Created with children’s input, this 43,000 square foot facility combines a "WOW" fun factor with a love of learning that actively engages kids and their parents in a wide variety of hands-on exhibits.  The multi-discipline museum, which is both a children’s museum and a science and technology center, is the only such facility within an approximate 100-mile radius of Chattanooga. Housed in a building recognized for its architectural design, the Museum features six core exhibits that stand ready to enthrall children from all walks of life.  These core exhibits are: RiverPlay, The Little Yellow House, Arts Alley, Excavation Station, and Inventors’ Clubhouse.  You will also want to make sure and visit our Rooftop Fun Factory and the Corner Clinic. The Museum’s three-story Lookout Tower, a one-of-a-kind structure, has a moving, 3D Barsamian sculpture on its first floor, an optics gallery and live beehive on its second floor, and an observation deck at the top of the third floor.

Other special features at the Museum include regularly scheduled science demonstrations, Preschool Adventure Saturdays, “ArtsLive” performances, seasonal festivals and walk-up lessons – all included in the price of admission. Don’t forget to stop by Café Dino-Mite and the Museum Shop.  The Museum also houses a Temporary Exhibit Gallery; a rotation of regularly changing blockbuster exhibits is featured throughout the year – for no extra admission fee.

These are some of the exhibits you can see in the Temporary Exhibit Gallery in 2011:

  • Good For You:  Healthy Fun on the Run (Friday, January 22 to Sunday, May 16) Come learn all about healthy food and movement choices with Ginger, her dog George, and the Good For You Crew.  Along with the opening of our new exhibit, we are also publishing a book! Good for You: Adventures with Ginger and George was written by Creative Discovery Museum’s own Programs Manager Lynne Mulligan, Ed. S., to complement the exhibit and introduce us to Ginger and her pals.
  • Bob the Builder  (Sat. May 28 to Tues. Sept. 6) Bob the Builder and his Can-Do Crew invite aspiring builders and their families to help get the job done Bob the Builder’s world invites exploration, inspires teamwork and brings environmentally friendly building themes to life for children and families.
  • Kids Like You, Kids Like Me (Fall 2011) If you were confined to a wheelchair, how would you play basketball? How does someone with a visual impairment pour a drink or write a letter? How would you order at a fast food restaurant if you had a hearing impairment? The Museum’s annual presentation of the exhibit “Kids Like You, Kids Like Me,” provides an interactive setting for children (and adults) to better understand that kids with disabilities do what other kids do -- including having fun -- they just do it a little differently.

Call the Museum at (423) 756-2738 or check our website at www.cdmfun.org for more information. Admission is $10.95 for adults and children 2 years of age and up.
