Summer Camp

Summer camps at Creative Discovery Museum are wonderful full-day experiences were children get exclusive Museum access and attention from our wonderful staff.

A world of exploration awaits your child this summer at Creative Discovery Museum’s Summer Camp. The Museum is offering one of a kind day camp experiences for children ages 4-5, and children in Kindergarten through 5th grade. A variety of lessons, themes, and field trips will make for an exciting camp this summer and an experience your child will not soon forget.

Half-day camps are available for 4 and 5 year olds, providing a great first-time camp experience. Museum staff ensures a safe, fun environment with Museum play, theme-related crafts, time in the Culinary Corner and a variety of activities that relate to the camp’s individual, child-friendly theme. A variety of themes will reflect current interests while building friendships between campers.

A featured theme for 2012 will include activities related to the Museum’s upcoming summer exhibit, TINKERTOY® : Build Your ImaginationTM! Your Camper will be amazed as he or she explores design and builds with many different materials inside the Museum. The theme of building will be carried through when campers “build” their own unique food creations, “build” inventions, and “build” friendships.

Our 2012 Summer Camps are sure to be a hit! Reserve your child's spot today!

FRIENDS' DISCOVERY CAMP

Ages 7 - 10           June 4 - 15
8:30 a.m. - noon

Excitement is building at Friends' Discovery Camp this year! Campers will build anything that can be built including buildings, vehicles that travel in the water and on land, strong bodies, great food, relationships and community.

This Summer's theme, Tinkering Around brings back the best activities from Friends Discovery Camp in the past and adds new activities focused on the Museum's summer temporary exhibitTinkertoys®: Build Your ImaginationTMThis exceptional camp supported by UTC and Chattanooga Parks and Rec offers kids with and without autism the opportunity to make new and lasting friendships while having fun in a safe but exciting environment.

Available for the first time this year is an extended day option at the Hunter Museum for Monday, June 11 - Thursday, June14 with a special closing reception at the Hunter on June 15. Campers taking advantage of this extended day option will have lunch at the Museum and walk to the Hunter for an afternoon full of fun art discovery with Big Buddies. There they will explore the colorful gallery spaces and then get to make their own art, touching many kinds of materials as they make their own masterpieces. These priceless originals made by your young artist will then be displayed in the studio galleries on June 15 as part of an end of camp finale for all camp families and friends. All activities held at the Hunter will be carefully planned by experienced educators from the Hunter, the Creative Discovery Museum and UTC and will be adapted for your child’s interests and strengths. Additional $100 for afternoon session. Extended hours are 1:00 - 4:00.

This camp serves kids in a unique way - by partnering a typically developing child with a child with autism and with a UTC psychology student. The kids have a great time with activities designed to be over the top fun while they learn to make new friends with children they may not get to know otherwise. This is a great camp for any child who wants to have a wonderful time this summer and make new friends.

This is the only inclusive camp designed exclusively for kids with autism and their typically developing peers. It is staffed with Big Buddies who are a part of a practicum in the UTC psychology department. This staff will have had a 4 week training as a part of their class just to know how to better facilitate the engagement of the campers with each other.

Basic cost of this camp is $160. Each family that goes through camp receives a My Family membership (valued at $95) good through the end of June 2013. Membership is not transferable.

Online reservations are not available for this camp. To reserve, please call Nancy at (423) 648-6045 or Beth at (423) 648-6040. Payment is due at the time of registration.
