SPECIAL THEMED TOUR - Moneyville

Bring your students to visit Creative Discovery Museum from January 19, 2008 - May 4, 2008 and immerse them in our new Moneyville Themed Tour.

During this two hour tour, students will spend time in the exhibit and will experience bartering first hand as they compare choices and trade. In this activity, children learn what it is like to trade with the use of money. During an art lesson, they will also be given "money" and must decide how to spend it on a variety of materials to create an art project. The 2-hour tour will culminate in the students participating in a unique Price is Right show Creative Discovery Museum style! Target grade level is K-5.

Moneyville, an exciting new exhibit at Creative Discovery Museum, offers a fun and inviting environment for exploring math and economics. The colorful city of Moneyville includes a bank, stock market, and an anti-counterfeiting lab, and includes plenty of hands-on activities. The exhibit, which was funded by a grant form the National Science Foundation, meets a number of math standards, including understanding numbers, calculating, finding patterns, estimating, measuring and comparing, interpreting data, and solving real-world problems. The history and culture of money are also explored, with samples of foreign currency, historical commodity items such as shells and beads, and looking at the value placed on money in society. Through the exhibit's many activities, students come to realize that economics is all about making choices, and will gain a new appreciation for the importance of math in everyday life.
