SCIENCE THEATRE at NORTHGATE MALL

Choose from these Entertaining
and Educational Science Shows:

Good Vibrations (lower elementary)
Discover the requirements for sound and observe sound waves as they change with volume, pitch and complexity. In addition, explore how the science of sound relates to music and instruments. Students have the opportunity to play instruments in Science Theatre bands for impromptu concerts!

It’s Not Magic, It’s Science
(lower elementary)

Introduce students to a science laboratory, simple science vocabulary and the idea that anyone can be a scientist. All five senses are engaged as students discover that science often looks like magic, but many magic tricks really use science.

Outer Space (upper elementary)
Students probe the solar system and explore the challenges of extended space travel to a planetary neighbor while remaining safely in the laboratory.

Simple Machines (upper elementary)
Simple machines may be simple, but they do amazing work. By using levers, pulleys, wheels and axles, inclined planes, screws and wedges, students will understand the relationships between force, load / resistance and work. Students fly, float, twirl, slide and elevate objects throughout the laboratory.

Wonder By Thunder (upper elementary)
Wonder no longer about the weather. Students understand the instruments used to forecast weather and investigate the forces that influence our climate and weather. The weather forecast for this program is stormy with clouds, tornadoes, and even lightning!

What’s the Matter? (upper elementary)
Things are always changing in the Science Theatre – especially states of matter! Students see, feel, hear and smell the relationships between states of matter as solids become liquids, liquids become gases, gases become solids and solids become gases. The finale is particularly explosive!

Shock Theatre (upper elementary)
Totally shocking and electrifying demonstrations will literally raise the hair and shock willing participants using a Magneto Generator, a one million volt Tesla Coil and a 7-foot-tall Van de Graff Generator. Students will understand conductors and insulators as well as open and closed circuits as never before! The electric chair is a hands down favorite.   Sponsored by EPB

Physical Science Sampler
(middle school)
Motion, electricity, magnetism, sound, light and heat are the branches of classical physics explored with special emphasis on how they relate to one another. Students are stimulated by shocks, explosions, optical illusions, and bouncing sound.

Reaction Chemistry (middle school)
Elements, compounds and mixtures introduce a wide variety of chemical reactions with eye-popping color changes, explosions and flashes of light. Common substances become better understood in light of their chemical composition.
