Birthday Party FAQs

Where will the party take place in the Museum?
Birthday parties take place in the Rainbow Room or, during peak season, the Celebration Room. Themed parties take place in Culinary Corner.
How many people can I invite?
Discovery Parties can accommodate up to 40 guests. (children and adults) (children and adults).
Discovery Jr. Birthday Party accommodates up to 30 guests. (children and adults)
Themed parties accommodate 30 guests. (activities are provided for only 15 children unless other arrangements are made)
Premier Parties accommodate up to 100 guests.
Will my guests have to pay Museum admission to come to the party?
No. Free Museum admission will be provided for you and your guests on the day of the party.
What does the Museum provide?
The Museum will provide the birthday party coordination, paper goods, birthday cake, ice cream and drinks. Face painting and crown-making will round out the birthday celebration. Leave your gifts and supplies at the ticket desk and we will have them waiting for you in your party room when your party begins. We'll even take care of the cleanup after!
How old does my child need to be to have a Museum birthday party?
We celebrate with children turning one and adapt our parties to intrigue children of all ages. 
How long can the party last?
The birthday child and guests have one hour of time in the room. But the party doesn't have to end once the hour has passed. You and your child's guests can continue the fun into the Museum.
Are party favors available?
Yes they are! Send your guests home with souvenirs of their fun time. Our Museum shop offers $4 and $5 bags, or you can create your own custom bag from their unique selection! Contact Carla in our Visitor Services office at or call (423) 648-6051.
Are lunches available?
Yes! Our fantastic Cafe Dino-Mite can provide lunches at an additional cost. They have a great selection of healthy snacks and sandwiches, as well as the more traditional snacks. From Peanut butter and Jelly to Panini sandwiches, there is something for everyone. Contact Angela Stoker at
How far in advance do I need to make the reservations?
Parties are scheduled on a first come, first served basis. Dates usually fill up two months in advance We suggest calling early to reserve your child's party.
How do I make a reservation?
Reservations are made by phone. Call Nancy at (423) 648-6045 or Sheila at (423) 648-6040 for more information and/or to schedule a party.
What are the Museum payment options?
The Museum accepts all major credit cards. Full payment, by credit card or in person is required to reserve your party. Cancellations and refund requests received less than twenty days before a scheduled party date will forfeit 50% of the party fees.
Will someone from the Museum staff the party?
Yes. Each party will have at least one party host to help with the party.
What do I need to bring?
Friends, family and of course, the birthday child. We will take care of the rest.
Where do I park?
The Museum reserves a parking space for the birthday family in our staff lot. Just look for the birthday child's name on a "reserved" sign! All birthday guests are responsible for their own parking. 
What is the refund and cancellation policy?
Payment in full is due at time of registration. Cancellations 20 or more business days prior to the start date of the program will be fully refunded. Any cancellations received less than 20 business days prior to the first day of the program will forfeit 50% of the program fees. No refunds will be given for cancellations made the day of the program or later.
