Discovery Virtual Learning Experiences
Can’t make it to the Museum? Let us come to you through the power of technology! We now offer exciting, interactive lessons straight to your classroom computer.
Discovery Virtual Learning Experiences allow students and teachers the opportunity to take advantage of the Museum’s hands-on instruction using the classroom environment. The distance learning educator will teach the lesson via video conference technology.
To take advantage of these lessons, classrooms need:
- distance learning equipment with adequate Internet connection and speed

- a computer with a video camera (either built in or external) and a copy of SKYPE, or Facetime installed
Each 50-minute lesson includes a kit containing a teacher packet and enough materials for up to 25 students to participate, which will arrive by mail prior to the lesson.

Creative Discovery Museum’s alternative energy lesson comes straight to your classroom in real time and offers your students the opportunity to interact with our instructor as they complete lab activities that cover concepts related to biofuels. We’ll ship everything you need for 25 students to complete this 50 minute lesson. All you need to supply is a pitcher of water and eager students. They will explore ocean acidification, cell walls, the carbon cycle, photosynthesis, non-food fuel crops and other concepts related to the production of sustainable sources of ethanol.

Finding renewable, sustainable sources of energy is critically important to our nation’s future. Through three hands-on activities, students explore how scientists are using plants, microbes, DNA/genetic research, and specialized processing techniques to produce specialized fuels and recyclable products. Free lessons are made possible by the Center for Bioenergy Innovation.
