STEAM Club meets Tuesdays from 1-3 p.m. and is designed specifically for 1st through 8th graders. Lessons change monthly and provide experiences that make science, technology, engineering, art and math come alive for kids.

Students will learn about green engineering, insulators, and environmental impacts to imagine, create, test, and improve a solar oven. Heating simple food items to test their designs is tasty fun.

Using recycled materials to create new products is the field of green engineering. Students will use recycled materials to engineer, build and race toy cars. To engineer a fast race car, green engineers must understand the properties of the recycled materials available, gravity, friction, and aerodynamic design.

Experimenting with parachutes in Earth’s atmosphere paves the way for students to become aerospace engineers. Their goal for the month is to engineer and build a parachute that will land a payload on another planet with an atmosphere thinner than Earth’s.
