Using recycled materials to create new products is the field of green engineering. Students will use recycled materials to engineer, build and race toy cars. To engineer a fast race car, green engineers must understand the properties of the recycled materials available, gravity, friction, and aerodynamic design.
October 5, 12, 19, 26
Students will become aeronautical engineers as they design and build flying technologies able to study harsh and dangerous environments. Activities include building technologies that hover in a wind tunnel, designing and making drop copters with a slow fall, creating flying discs that spin as they fly and making a model technology that meets a set of criteria and constraints. The final project will be to showcase students’ engineered designs.
November 2, 9, 16
Students will apply their knowledge of density, floating and sinking to design their own submersible to retrieve a package from a model of the ocean floor.
